Establish the Need for a Supervised Toothbrushing Programme

Discussion within the relevant commissioning organisation to review the need for a supervised toothbrushing programme, discuss the potential for funding, and gain high-level support for example:

 

• LA level - Director of Public Health and Health and Well-being board  

• ICS – Director of Population Health– Integrated Care commissioning board  

 

Liaison with the local consultant in dental public health is important at this stage to discuss the appropriateness of a supervised toothbrushing programme, and its integration with other, existing or future, oral health improvement programmes.

In many cases, a business case for the supervised toothbrushing programme needs to be written and submitted for consideration. Once this has been approved a service specification needs to be developed.
