Information for Commissioners

To implement a supervised toothbrushing programme effectively, begin by assessing local oral health needs to identify high-risk areas. Then prioritise and target the most appropriate settings, such as nurseries or schools. Plan and co-ordinate the programme to prevent duplication, make best use of resources, and align with existing initiatives. Establish robust governance structures to define roles and ensure accountability. Finally, monitor and evaluate performance to measure impact and guide ongoing improvement. This is an iterative process and whether you already have an established supervised toothbrushing programme that you wish to expand or are starting a new one will determine the steps you need to take.
