Interactive Maps of Supervised Toothbrushing Programmes
Data from the BRUSH surveys 2022-2025
The BRUSH data app brings together figures from our national surveys of supervised Toothbrushing Programmes (STPs) in England. The surveys, run in 2022, 2024 and 2025, recorded which local authorities were providing STPs and how many children were taking part.
You can explore the data in two ways:
-
The Maps tab shows the figures as interactive maps - use the Choose variable drop-down at the top to switch between the status of STPs in each local authority and the number of children participating. We've also included several key measures linked to children's oral health, so you can compare the BRUSH findings against other variables of interest.
-
The Data tab presents the same figures in a table, with a search bar for looking up individual local authorities. Two further tabs, Data sources and Notes about the data, explain where the figures come from and flag anything worth knowing about missing data and data management.
The data were collected at upper tier local authority level. We've added Integrated Care Board (ICB) boundaries as an optional layer for an alternative view. To explore values for individual local authorities, switch off the ICB boundaries layer using the tick box in the top right-hand corner - you can switch it back on at any time.
Hover over a local authority to see its figures for the selected variable. The zoom function (top left, or using a trackpad) works whether or not the ICB layer is on.
Only one map can be shown at a time, but you can open the app in a second window to compare two variables side by side.
